Perverse schobers, stability conditions and quadratic differentials

There are multiple classes of triangulated categories arising from marked surfaces whose spaces of stability conditions are described by moduli spaces of quadratic differentials on the surfaces. We unify the approaches for describing their spaces of stability conditions and apply this to new classes of examples. This generalizes the results of Bridgeland--Smith to quadratic differentials with arbitrary singularity type (zero/pole/exponential). The novel examples include the derived categories of relative graded Brauer graph algebras. The main computational tool are perverse schobers, which allow us to relate hearts of tt-structures to mixed-angulations of the surface and tilts of the former with flips of the latter. This is complemented by another approach based on deforming Fukaya AA_\infty-categories of surfaces and transfers of stability conditions.Comment: 75 pages, comments welcome

Software frameworks as extensible building blocks have several advantages. They admit to reuse the framework's functionality and its software architecture. Examples are user interface or database connectivity frameworks. A framework is customized by implementing application specific extensions. An application uses a framework through its extension points.During the evolution of such an application the situation arises where the framework has to be updated to a newer version. An update contains the risk of incompatibilities between the existing application and the new framework version. This may result in high efforts for required adjustments. Thus, possible incompatibilities have to be recognized and evaluated before an update is performed. This is not possible in accordance with the current state-of-the-art and results in unforeseen problems accompanied by high consequential costs. We propose a process for an automatic compatibility analysis of framework-based applications that solves the problem. Combining code analysis and a novel framework description our process detects possible incompatibilities before an update is performed. A prototypical implementation in the »Companian« tool demonstrates the practical feasibility of our process.Tag der Verteidigung: 20.12.2012Paderborn, Univ., Diss., 201

Energy Management Strategy for an Autonomous Electric Racecar using Optimal Control

The automation of passenger vehicles is becoming more and more widespread, leading to full autonomy of cars within the next years. Furthermore, sustainable electric mobility is gaining in importance. As racecars have been a development platform for technology that has later also been transferred to passenger vehicles, a race format for autonomous electric racecars called Roborace has been created. As electric racecars only store a limited amount of energy, an Energy Management Strategy (EMS) is needed to work out the time as well as the minimum energy trajectories for the track. At the same time, the technical limitations and component behavior in the electric powertrain must be taken into account when calculating the race trajectories. In this paper, we present a concept for a special type of EMS. This is based on the Optimal Control Problem (OCP) of generating a time-minimal global trajectory which is solved by the transcription via direct orthogonal collocation to a Nonlinear Programming Problem (NLPP). We extend this minimum lap time problem by adding our ideas for a holistic EMS. This approach proves the fundamental feasibility of the stated ideas, e.g. varying racepaths and velocities due to energy limitations, covered by the EMS. Also, the presented concept forms the basis for future work on meta-models of the powertrain's components that can be fed into the OCP to increase the validity of the control output of the EMS.Comment: Accepted at the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference - ITSC 2019, Auckland, New Zealand 27 - 30 Octobe

Spatio-spectral characteristics of parametric down-conversion in waveguide arrays

High dimensional quantum states are of fundamental interest for quantum information processing. They give access to large Hilbert spaces and, in turn, enable the encoding of quantum information on multiple modes. One method to create such quantum states is parametric down-conversion (PDC) in waveguide arrays (WGAs) which allows for the creation of highly entangled photon-pairs in controlled, easily accessible spatial modes, with unique spectral properties. In this paper we examine both theoretically and experimentally the PDC process in a lithium niobate WGA. We measure the spatial and spectral properties of the emitted photon-pairs, revealing strong correlations between spectral and spatial degrees of freedom of the created photons. Our measurements show that, in contrast to prior theoretical approaches, spectrally dependent coupling effects have to be taken into account in the theory of PDC in WGAs. To interpret the results, we developed a theoretical model specifically taking into account spectrally dependent coupling effects, which further enables us to explore the capabilities and limitations for engineering the spatial correlations of the generated quantum states.Comment: 26 pages, 11 figure

OBJECTIVES To characterize the effect of ultra-short glucocorticoids followed by Tocilizumab monotherapy on the intima-media thickness (IMT) in GCA. METHODS 18 GCA patients received 500mg methylprednisolone intravenously on days 0-2, followed by Tocilizumab (8mg/kg) intravenously on day 3 and thereafter weekly subcutaneous Tocilizumab injections (162 mg) over 52 weeks. Ultrasound of temporal (TA), axillary (AA) and subclavian (SA) arteries was performed at baseline, on days 2-3, at week 4, 8, 12, 24 and 52. The largest IMT of all segments and IMT at landmarks of AA/SA were recorded. IMT was scaled by mean normal values and averaged. Each segment was classified according to diagnostic cut-offs. RESULTS 16 patients had TA and 6 had extracranial large artery involvement. The IMT showed a sharp decline on day 2/3 in the TA and AA/SA. In TA, this was followed by an increase to baseline levels at week 4 and a subsequent slow decrease, which was paralleled by decreasing symptoms and achievement of clinical remission. The AA/SA showed a new signal of vasculitis at week 4 in three patients with an IMT increase up to week 8. CONCLUSIONS Glucocorticoid pulse therapy induced a transient decrease of the IMT in TA and AA/SA. Tocilizumab monotherapy resulted in a slow and steady decrease in IMT of the TA and a smaller and delayed effect on the AA/SA. The data strongly support a remission-inducing effect of Tocilizumab and argue for an important role of ultrasound in monitoring disease activity in GCA

Digitizing Travel Experience: Assessing, Modeling and Visualizing the Experiences of Travelers in Shared Mobility Services

    Get PDF
During shared travel, humans regularly have negative experiences resulting from unmet needs in terms of safety, comfort, accessibility, efficiency, reliability or information. Frequent negative travel experiences motivate travelers to use private motorized transport instead of more sustainable, shared mobility services. It is difficult for shared transport providers to react to such negative experiences, as these mostly depend on individual needs and situational factors and can therefore rarely be counteracted with static one-size-fits-all solutions. Additionally, (real-time) information about a traveler’s experience is not (digitally) available to providers and thus a situation-adapted reaction is often not possible. Therefore, methods to assess travel experience and make travel experience digitally available are highly important for enabling means to render shared transport more attractive. Here, we present initial research on digitizing travel experience exemplified by an envisioned automated shuttle line

The Liver Tumor Segmentation Benchmark (LiTS)

In this work, we report the set-up and results of the Liver Tumor Segmentation Benchmark (LiTS), which was organized in conjunction with the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) 2017 and the International Conferences on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) 2017 and 2018. The image dataset is diverse and contains primary and secondary tumors with varied sizes and appearances with various lesion-to-background levels (hyper-/hypo-dense), created in collaboration with seven hospitals and research institutions. Seventy-five submitted liver and liver tumor segmentation algorithms were trained on a set of 131 computed tomography (CT) volumes and were tested on 70 unseen test images acquired from different patients. We found that not a single algorithm performed best for both liver and liver tumors in the three events. The best liver segmentation algorithm achieved a Dice score of 0.963, whereas, for tumor segmentation, the best algorithms achieved Dices scores of 0.674 (ISBI 2017), 0.702 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.739 (MICCAI 2018). Retrospectively, we performed additional analysis on liver tumor detection and revealed that not all top-performing segmentation algorithms worked well for tumor detection. The best liver tumor detection method achieved a lesion-wise recall of 0.458 (ISBI 2017), 0.515 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.554 (MICCAI 2018), indicating the need for further research. LiTS remains an active benchmark and resource for research, e.g., contributing the liver-related segmentation tasks in http://medicaldecathlon.com/.
